Project AeroSelf

(2021)

In 2021 Proto Dev and Fab assisted with the mechanical design, prototype fabrication, and testing of a lab benchtop alpha prototype whose purpose was to investigate the feasibility of a novel airway clearance device jointly invented by the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Our fruitful collaboration took place over six months and enabled a series of successful experiments to be conducted at the University.

Base Control Unit
Touchscreen interface, signal processing, data logging, air flow management, and power distribution integrating into tight benchtop unit housed in a modified off-the-shelf PC case.

Lots of custom brackets and structural elements needed to cleanly package all the required hardware into this volume!

Hand Piece
All surface modeling of the shells and internal component assembly design layout handled by Proto Dev and Fab. MJF additive manufacturing components with heat-set inserts were used to create the hand unit. Onboard sensors communicate data back through LEMO connectors to base unit for real-time control of operating parameters.
